We are going to tell you some fun facts about ocean animals!
Dolphins are mammals that can be very playful and can jump very high. They are friendly and very intelligent. They stick with their mothers for a long time.
Mother sea turtles lay their eggs on sandy beaches. First the mother digs a hole for the eggs. Then she puts the eggs in the hole and covers the eggs in sand. When the eggs hatch, the turtles dig their way out of the sand and make their way into the ocean.
Sea otters eat crabs, sea urchins, snails, abalone, and clams. Mother sea otters wrap their babies in seaweed when they hunt for food so the babies don't float away.
Starfish eat clams, oysters, sand dollars, coral, mussels, and sponges. They can live in tidepools and in or near sea grasses.
Also known as killer whales, orcas are actually dolphins. They live in pods of 2-30. Each has unique coloring. Like other dolphins, orcas will help the injured or sick. Their pods move around with the seasons to find food.
Because of its long, hornlike tooth, the narwhal is sometimes referred to as the "unicorn of the sea". Narwhals can live to about 30 -40 years. The main predators of the narwhal include orcas and (sometimes) polar bears.
